Lots of people hope to leave their 9-5 jobs and open their own businesses; however, becoming a business owner is not for everyone. An entrepreneur needs the following specific personality traits in order to succeed.
Basic Character Traits:
1) Initiative - There are a number of fundamental skills and personal qualities that an entrepreneur must have, but they can all be summarized as a self-starter who has a liking for acting; a person who is an “actor” in the game of life, not simply a couch potato.
2) Leadership and Inspiration - An entrepreneur should be able to “sell” his/her ideas to a large community of people, probably starting with a financial backer, and continuing through a regular stream of contacts with both vendors and customers. Honesty and integrity are paramount.
3) A Positive Viewpoint Rather than a Cynical Viewpoint – An entrepreneur must have the ability to envision the positives in any set of circumstances and to envisage a positive outcome, regardless of the difficulties or barriers one might currently be facing.
4) A Competent Mind and Ability to Fashion or Innovate – An entrepreneur must also be able to overstep the boundaries of contemporary thinking and restraining assumptions, and to think creatively, including the ability to picture opportunities where others see only limits and problems.
5) Capability for Accepting Reasonable Risks – Risks are found in any undertaking, and the entrepreneur must be able to immediately and accurately interpret the risks inherent in his/her anticipated business, and then must have the courage and fortitude to act when the occasion is right.
Effectively, an entrepreneur identifies a problem that is still unresolved - and creates a solution addressing the desires of a specific market segment.
Someone who can creatively solve problems in the situation, preserve self-control and self-discipline, along with a positive attitude together with the desire and determination to succeed will do just that - succeed.
If you lack any of these qualities, enterpreneuring may not be the best alternative for your future success and financial security; however, if you do have the above qualities, you too can become a successful business owner.
